Meet the Sisters

We're Kim & Amy, the blood sisters behind this operation. You could say we chose to open this business in 2006 but it would be more accurate to say it chose us. Some people choose their work, but in our case, our work chose us.

While today you’ll find us sipping green smoothies for breakfast and brushing our teeth with baking soda, we weren’t always such health fanatics. Amy subsisted almost entirely on Kraft Dinner during her university years and Kim used to skip breakfast in favour of a cigarette. We also used hormonal birth control for almost ten years each, and spent a long time “managing” our periods with prescription painkillers. So, we know firsthand that old habits die hard (especially convenient ones)! But we also know how powerful it feels to be connected to your body and know you're doing your part to help the planet. Learning to manage our fertility without hormones, choosing body-safe products, and ditching ideas about what sex “should” look like in favour of what we actually enjoy… those are just a few of the changes we’ve made that have radically improved our health and happiness. Which is why we want to share them with you.

Amy Sedgwick

Born and raised in Toronto, Amy has a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Toronto and is a certified Fertility Awareness Educator through the Association of Fertility Awareness Professionals. Amy is also certified as a Holistic Reproductive Health Practitioner through Justisse International and is currently on the faculty at Justisse, where she is completing a three-year advanced training as a Holistic Reproductive Health Practitioner Educator (HRHPE).

Through Red Tent Sisters, Amy supports individuals of all genders and sexual orientations who wish to use fertility awareness to achieve or avoid pregnancy, or to maximize their reproductive health.

Amy’s own health journey began after side effects from hormonal birth control nearly destroyed her breastfeeding relationship with her newborn daughter in 2005. Seeking a natural yet effective contraceptive alternative, she turned to the Justisse Method of Fertility Management. Through learning to chart her cycles using the Justisse Method, Amy finally uncovered answers to longstanding health problems – including a hidden autoimmune disease, food sensitivities, and nutrient deficiencies. Through working with her own Holistic Reproductive Health Practitioner, she was able to reverse debilitating menstrual symptoms and achieve energy and vitality she hadn’t experienced since her childhood. Since then she has committed herself to helping others achieve optimal health.

Amy regularly engages in professional development activities. She has completed additional training in nutritional supplementation, the Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy, and Harner Shamanic Counseling. Amy has also been initiated as a Priestess of the Sacred Grove and is currently completing her second year of training in the Red Moon Mystery School. She has also been initiated into the Path of Pollen, a gynocentric shamanic path centred around the teachings of the honeybee.

In her spare time, Amy enjoys mindfulness photography (Miksang), wild foraging, knitting, reading, wire-walking, and shamanic journeying. Amy has lived in four countries on three continents and has travelled extensively. She currently resides in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, but provides support to clients all over the world via Skype, Zoom and phone.

Kim Sedgwick

Born and raised in Toronto, Kim completed her undergraduate education at King's College University in Halifax in 2006, with a joint major in English and Gender & Women's Studies. Kim is a trained Co-Active Coach through the Coaches Training Institute and is currently undergoing coaching certification.

Through Red Tent Sisters, Kim provides sex education and individual coaching to help clients name and claim their sexual desires. Kim also provides support to those navigating hormonal transitions that may be negatively impacting their libido.

After years of offering impromptu sex coaching to friends in elevators and grocery lines, Kim was able to turn her passion into a profession as a sex educator in 2007 when Red Tent Sisters opened its doors in Toronto's east end. For five years Kim supported customers in expanding their sexual pleasure through paid live workshops as well as informal education. Talking about sex toys and lube comes naturally to Kim. In fact, she was once told by a customer that she sells dildos like she's selling toothbrushes. Factual and to the point, Kim puts the most shy and conservative individuals at ease and makes every person feel like having a vibe in their bedside drawer is as normal as... well, having a toothbrush.

Kim's professionalism and ability to put people at ease has landed her as a guest on several TV shows including Cosmo TV, Bringing Sexy Back, and Sex Matters. More importantly, it has enabled her to coach hundreds of customers and clients to confidently claim their desires and articulate their needs both inside and outside the bedroom.

Kim regularly engages in continuing education and advocacy work with regards to sexuality and gender issues. Kim has completed the Sexual Attitudes Reassessment training, has served on the organizing committee of G-Day Toronto,  donated her time as an educator to high school youth, postpartum mothers and the monthly Toronto Bedpost: The Sex & Sexuality Variety Show series. Between 2011 and 2016 Kim also ran the online retail arm of Red Tent Sisters, ecosex.ca.

In her spare time, Kim enjoys travelling, reading, knitting, spending time with her niece, swimming at the family cottage, and spending time with friends. Kim currently resides in Toronto. She works with clients both in-person and by distance.

Raeanne Perry

Raeanne Perry

Raeanne is the Holistic Nutrition Sister at Red Tent Sisters, providing support to women enrolled in RTS’s advanced birth control, fertility, & reproductive health programs. She currently resides in Ottawa but works with Red Tent Sisters’ clients around the world. Born and raised in P.E.I., she has a Bachelor of Business Administration and is a Registered Holistic Nutritionist.

Raeanne’s own health journey began out of a personal frustration and deep desire for change. Faced with weight and hormonal challenges, she instinctively knew food was the answer. By making little lifestyle modifications and better food choices, Raeanne began losing pounds and inches, and saw relief with regard to her hormonal symptoms. Inspired by the healing power of food, Raeanne enrolled in the Natural Nutrition program at the Canadian School for Natural Nutrition. During her time there she also registered for Red Tent Sisters’ Eco-Contraception program where she learned how to take control of her fertility and deepen her awareness of her body’s needs and rhythms. Following her graduation from CSNN, Raeanne completed an internship with Kim & Amy before being asked to join the team in an official capacity as Red Tent Sisters' Holistic Nutrition Sister. Raeanne’s work has assisted clients to see relief from a myriad of health symptoms, ranging from yeast infections to PMS, and has aided women in optimizing both their immediate and long-term fertility.

In her spare time, Raeanne enjoys further pursuing her education in nutrition, spending time with friends and family, and trying new recipes in the kitchen.

Hilary Scoffield

Hilary Scoffield

Hilary Scoffield is the Client Care Sister at Red Tent Sisters. Currently she is completing a double major in Psychology and Biology. Devoted to women's health, Hilary is a life-long learner. The mind/body connection fascinates her & she immerses herself in her studies daily.

Learning of the Justisse Method as a 16 year old, she successfully managed and eventually eliminated the painful periods that she had believed were going to plague her for the rest of her adult life. Through the method, she learned to listen to her body and hear what it was trying to tell her. Symptoms became stories and discomfort became lessons. As she tended to her health, her head & her heart, her symptoms began to dissolve away. This experience, coupled with her deep curiosity about how women's bodies are capable of healing themselves, has sparked a passion to help those who struggle as she once did. She dreams of a world where one day, every girl and teenager will be taught how to care for herself in a natural and holistic way.

Hilary is touched by the sisters' commitment and passion, coupled with their infectious laughter. When she's not working with them or studying the books, she enjoys forest bathing, an enticing read and playing her piano.
