Mojo for Mamas: How to Regain Interest in Sex After Having a Baby

Stress and exhaustion are both libido killers. Add in a lack of privacy and feeling “overtouched” and it’s no wonder sex ends up at the bottom of the to-do list.

We're often asked to give talks to mom's groups about postpartum sexuality. Like many of the things we discuss at Red Tent Sisters, this is a topic that's often overlooked. As a result, when we invite people to share about their experiences we usually can't contain the conversation! Everyone is typically relieved to hear that their neighbours and friends are experiencing similar challenges.

In today's episode of Red Tent Sisters TV we share tips for regaining sexual intimacy with your partner post-baby. Since this question is most often raised by cisgender women in our community who are in heterosexual relationships, the advice we share is mostly geared toward that demographic. However, much of what we offer is applicable to all parents regardless of gender or sexual orientation.

In this five minute video we discuss:

  1. Learning to ask for help! Stress is a serious libido killer, so don't try to "do it all"

  2. Being clear about your needs (orgasmic release versus physical or emotional intimacy)

  3. The importance of scheduling in time for your relationship

  4. The benefits of lube (especially when breastfeeding)

  5. How taking the focus off intercourse can improve pleasure for both partners
